Everett has the ability to perceive far more colors than the average human. In fact, the entire world's much more vivid to him, giving him a much clearer picture of motion and depth. In other words, he's more than just good at observing things. In a way, he can almost sense intent by careful prediction. Before anyone else notices key signs, like quick glances or subtle leaning, he's noticed and he's probably staring, just waiting for the moment that the person's going to get on with it and run like they know they want to. He notices every detail from the quick, short bursts by which your chest rises to the nervous glances. He can even perceive the flush of your expression from adrenaline-
... Let's keep it simple; just steer clear of him, especially if you're planning something.
Had Everett wanted to stop a person, his bone structure is now much different than a humans. While he looks strikingly like a human, aside from his wispy hair, he's much, much lighter. His bones are hollow like a bird's wings, enabling him to fight gravity better than someone who wasn't predisposed to be agile through an experiment. But, rest assured, Everett doesn't want to stop you.
His adaption also gave him a very, very high metabolism rate. It seems particularly accelerated when Everett moves fast, so eighty percent of the time he's complaining that he's hungry, or he's quietly sitting in his cell, lethargic from hunger. For him, it's not about how much he eats at once, it's how often. He doesn't need a full course meal twice a day, he just needs some sugar every few hours that he's awake. In fact, though he won't complain about a full course meal, it really is better to hand the kid a candy bar or a sucker or something, rather than to waste time with a meal. His body'd just kick into overdrive and break it down faster if there was more food. Sugar in itself is what his body's disposed to since the experiment. It'll digest anything, but he functions better on sugar.
Hearing is another thing Everett's specifically good at. His hearing is acute, though in the din of a crowd he struggles to compile an entire image- he fixates on sounds that are unique and usually misses the others. Now, he's not known for having the absolute best hearing of any species/mutation, but his hearing surpasses a regular human. Also, like a bird, he has an adaptation for memory- in the same way a bird has a good memory for sounds, he has a more encompassing memory for everything else.
Everett's hollow bone structure is also the reason he needs calcium supplements. They help to prevent injuries, but his bone structure really doesn't stay dense- the calcium, while it helps immediately after taking it, doesn't stay in place. His body seems to reject it and discard it, preferring it's lighter mass.
Lastly, Everett can make sounds most can't. He usually won't bother because it's silly, but he can. He can imitate many sounds with practice and any interest. Unfortunately, his interest in his own vision usually trumps any desire to focus on sound. And, dashing hopes of rebels, voices aren't particularly interesting to him. Theoretically he could mimic it, but getting him to want to is a challenge in itself. Perhaps with sufficient bribery and proper, non-distracting surroundings, he'll agree. Also, it won't surprise anyone to hear he can literally hum (the hummingbird's hum is it's wings, but he is capable of making the same noise verbally beyond a human's natural ability) and, when he moves, the sound of him moving through the air is almost a soft hum in itself. Still, the verbal hum is what you'll hear most often; he hums to chase away silence.
Appearance »»
Thanks to the brilliant experiment he was a part of, infusing him with a hummingbird of all things, he's destined to be both short, standing at five feet seven inches, and small- his weight fluctuates depending on his last meal, but he usually weighs in at a little over a hundred (he doesn't have much bone mass). He's not strong by any means, but he's agile, with a bone structure enabling movements that defy the air that surrounds him.
Everett is a very dignified person. He would prefer, when not forced into something else, to be dressed in formal attire. But it's okay, you can deny him that right- just make sure his clothes match, or he'll openly refuse to wear them. Instead, he'll settle for just wearing the pants and refusing the offending material, be it a shirt or his socks. But don't be fooled, he'll be very upset if he has to resort to that. It's better just to make the boy happy.
Everett's hair is very long, dark blue and somewhat wispy, similar in texture to feathers. His complexion is specifically pale and, as a side note, his skin doesn't hold a tan well- it just burns when exposed to the sun. Another key part of his appearance is his eyes- he has brilliant blue eyes that show an inhuman depth and alertness to them. By looking into his eyes you can see a fragment of the brilliant colors he sees reflected off the pure blue surface- it's unnatural, but some people find it unique enough to be alluring. Sometimes his eyes will take on different colors if a room is a solid color. For example, a white walled room will turn his eyes into a light blue. A dark room will darken it to a sort of purple. Grass, if he stares at it long enough, will turn his eyes a pure green.
It's the language that we speak
Likes »»
»» Organization- it's calming to give everything a place.
»» Red Kool-aid- sugar. yum. red. love.
»» Shakespeare- ah, classic literature <3
»» Music- he thinks music is perfect. it just is.
»» Lemons- they just taste good, he doesn't know why.
(he likes most fruit- natural sugar, but mostly citrus stuff)
Dislikes »»
»» Silence- silence? imperfect. nothing to observe. it isn't real.
»» Artificial Lighting- edison, he would shoot you.
»» Television- ... so simplistic, it makes his head hurt.
(they don't capture the colors he can see)
»» Small Talk- the world's more interesting; be direct or shut up.
»» Cold Temperatures- he hates being cold. loves the sight of the snow, ice, and generally winter more than anything else, but loathes the cold.
Goals »»
»»
Think of a good, preferably non-violent goal (primarily because, while his mind suggests violent thoughts when angry, Everett is quite passive and not likely to go through with any of them).
»» Become a teacher;
To make the world a better place.
Habits »»
»» Observing details (ie; counting things- he's always counting, watching mannerisms, noting movement, cataloging speech/emotional shifts in people) then writing them down nightly. He doesn't write because he won't remember, he writes because it's routine
»» Stashing calcium pills rather than taking them- he does it because he likes being light. Yes, it's a risk, but he hates feeling weighed down, so he tries not to take them when he can.
»» Most headaches are dehydration. It's a fact, specifically a fact that Everett knows. Since the experiment he's been particularly prone to refusing most liquids, insisting he's not thirsty so that he can develop a headache and intensify his power. Dehydration is a very real, very likely possibility for him because of the habit.
Phobias »»
»» Fire- He's not really scared of water or drowning, but he's terrified of fire and burns. Fire specifically bugs him because the colors are so brilliant, it mesmerizes him without fail. Makes him almost dizzy as he watches it- it's so compelling, but so evil. He's one to reach out to touch it without meaning to.
»» Arachibutyrophobia- No, it's not funny, he will be royally ticked off. This phobia means he doesn't like peanut butter sticking to the roof of his mouth; don't get any ideas.
Overall Personality »»
Technically, this kid's considered a risk. He's not very loyal, but he's not an all-out rebel, yet Everett's intelligent enough to break out of his cell with any motivation to do it. Plus, he's observant enough to stage a masterful coup, exploiting even the most simple of mistakes made by the guards. Using your left hand instead of the right so you can reach for your gun- he saw that. And he knows it adds an extra five seconds to the time it takes you to open his cell. Everett Malixi is trouble. But he's also among the most apathetic of the test subjects. It's not that he doesn't care, it's that everything's just so overwhelming. Ever since the experiment, the kid's more reserved than ever before. The whole world's different and his obsessive personality has more cause than ever to fixate.
So, yes, while Everett is definitely a clear and present danger, all the guards have to do is wear a combination of clothes that annoys him. Really, try it, I dare you. It'll make him so mad, but he'll resort to begging you to change. That, or he'll steal your clothes. No, really, he'll steal them. How? Some wonder that very question, but during his free time, he manages to steal annoying articles of clothing (which he then hides wherever he has access to). If he spent even a fraction of the time he spends worrying about minor imperfections, he very well could be devising a theoretical plan of escape that would save unaltered humans from his fate.
... Yeah, he's going to stick with making sure you don't wear purple and yellow together, thanks. It's not that he actually cares about fashion, it's just his mind notices bad combinations and then he's forced to fixate on it. It's annoying. It's like someone broke a cardinal rule everyone should already know, so because they did, the world is a bad, bad place. And the combination distracts him from other things like counting the people around him, or noticing how many times they say 'like'- that's always a fun way to pass the time.
At any rate, Everett's also a bit of a danger to his peers. When among them, he keeps to himself, but he watches them almost unintentionally. Each move seems to alert him (much to his general annoyance; why can't he just be by himself?) so he glances up, and, naturally, systematically catalogs the new information before he turns back to whatever it was he was doing. When annoyed with someone for their attire or other imperfection, like an untied shoe lace or ripped article of clothing, he'll resort to telling the guard's who to lock down next as a bargaining chip.
Most of the time he's right on the mark and that person does try to flee very soon after he warns them- but he only tells if the guard promises to fix whatever's annoying him in that moment. Yes, it is common for Everett to approach a guard and insist, very forcefully, that a certain person be dealt with for being distracting. He does it in that manner so that either he gets listened to or he gets taken inside himself (which is entirely fine by him). But it's no amazing feat for him to predict your intention. If he's put around a person, he's compelled to observe them and keeps track of their actions. When they vary from it, he knows. He can see early signs of sickness, too, like a dullness to your eyes or a subtle change in your complexion.
Anyway, Everett does have other personality traits, especially when he's taking anti-anxiety pills, or after he's just woken up (and, subsequently, hasn't had enough time to get annoyed by every detail of the world around him). If you catch him in the right moment or are more than a stranger to him you'll find he's many things. Among them, he's articulate, intelligent, paternal, and passionate. Get this kid on your side, and he'll tell you what to do. He's more moral than most because he's devised his own moral compass. On the reverse, he's vengeful, suspicious, secretive, and very harsh toward strangers. In no way is he your ideal best friend until you're his best friend. There is a distinction, and if you don't know it yet, just talk to Everett, you'll figure it out quick.
Ultimately though, Everett is affectionate. Beyond the obsessive, standoffish cover, he's really sweet and endearing. He's quick to hug you and content to cuddle against you, listening to the simple, consistent sounds of your breathing. He's the type of person that just wants to be close to you to feel like the world is perfect. Just... please, make sure you match for his sanity.

History »»
Everett wasn't always so obsessive. Believe it or not, there was a time when he was just a bit more detail oriented than the other children. He was a cautious and introverted child, but by no means was he shy. Just quiet. In his youth he had a stuttering problem- he could hardly get through a single syllable without stammering. While fellow students waited patiently for him to get out with it, teachers felt more compelled to save thirty seconds and guess what he meant to say. Everett hated that more than anything else, so he fostered a sense of distrust and disapproval of adults, solely on the basis that many of them made him feel ashamed of a natural and uncontrollable issue. It didn't help that he was sent to Scotland to attend a private school for arts at the age of five. His grandmother lived about an hour from the school, but he rarely saw her or any other relation.
Between the ages of thirteen and fourteen his stuttering problem seemed to magically disappear (Everett doesn't know why it went away, it just gradually lessened until he simply didn't stutter.) From then on, he was the intelligent but less-than-accommodating student. He'd talk with his peers and he'd write insightful comments, but to his teachers, he was distant, simply unwilling to encourage any direct conversation. At one point one teacher got the idea just to write to him, to correspond purely by written notes in order to facilitate conversation- it worked. As it turns out, accommodating Everett is always an effective solution to any problem.
At fifteen, just shy of his sixteenth birthday, he was effectively kidnapped. There was little his relations could do from across the ocean, and his grandmother had little authority herself. So Everett, interesting as he is, decided to go with them relatively willingly, seeming to foresee that he was physically no match for them. So he asked politely to be taken civilly, and he willingly complied with their orders to avoid any pain they could inflict. When he got to the mysterious building they injected him with something, then after a lot of pain as his body adapted (having your bones hollow out, as it turns out, is a very disorienting occurrence) he was soon aware of how vivid everything was.
Pain killers would nullify the effect of his new vision, but when left alone after the experiment, Everett would spend many hours just staring at everything, including walls, or if he could swing it, staring at things outside. Everything captivated him, especially when his brain was registering a pain signal. Pain focused his vision, intensifying the experience. If anything, he's more docile when he's in pain. And for several days after as he grew accustomed to it, his gaze steadily shifted until he began to have a focused and alert perception whenever he looked at people. Eventually that alert and focused gaze was just as much a part of him as any other physical feature.
