A PENNY FOR THE OLD GUY †
In the movie chamber, the lights were turned down low with but a few that lit the narrow walkways. Asher Heathcliff got himself a Dr. Pepper and leisurely hung out near the entrance. He didn‘t often come here to watch movies, but he did come for the soda pop. As a well-behaved and manner-full test subject, he was allowed rights to the movie ’chamber’ (Geez, they just have to make everything here sounds scary, don’t they?), but he took more interest in popcorn and drinks. But he was rather bored today, and, with nothing else to do, he inconspicuously made his way to the huge catalogue of movies. A guilty pleasure of his, horror and thriller movies had been a passion in his previous life. Previous meaning before Scarlet Rose Academy. When he had heard that there was a movie room in the academy, he saw it as a chance to fall back in love with demonic ghosts and serial killers and zombies.[/blockquote]
Too much of a good thing was a bad thing, though, Asher always reminded himself when he would ‘accidentally‘ walk by the theatre. So he had rationed a movie a month for himself, and, even then, he thought that it was a bit much. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, he supposed. So there he was scanning through the seemingly infinite amount of titles. Finally, his eyes stumbled upon the movie he was looking for: Excorcist, The, in proper alphabetical terms. The Excorcist in normal lingo. He almost squealed with glee as he saw that there was an older version of the movie. Even older than the already old, he should say. Filmed all the way back in 1973, the movie was like an ancient relic. With this in mind, he held it above him like an idiot, taking in all of its horror glory. Maybe he would watch both in succession to properly compare them, he persuaded himself. He agreed to himself, leaving a mental note to atone for his sins later. So he picked up the newer version and held them both up as if they were a newborn baby Jesus. He mumbled to himself, words of praise that he had memorized from scripture. Any person stumbling upon him and his treasure might mistake him for being a lunatic escaped test subject.
